In the central region of forest is moist & mixed deciduous types. Shenthuruny forest is about 500 meter above sea level .The terrain is suitable for trekking , rock climbing activities.
Thenmala wild life sanctuary is about of 100 square kilometer in area and inhabits large stock of flora and fauna. In 1984 shenturuny forest was declared as a wild life sanctuary. It derived its name from an endemic species of tree called Chenkurunji [ Gluta travancoria ].

THENMALA IS ABOUT 72 Km from Thiruvanatha puram, The name Thenmala is derived from two words, Then and Mala . Then means honey and Mala maens Hillock ie, Honey hills.The honey collected from Thenmala forest is of high nutrition and medicinal values.
